  17. When I put 3.1 in my 2000, the pointer always came up black.  I did the 
  18. same thing you did for a while, brought up the pointer prefs from 
  19. user-startup.  The problem disappeared when I installed Magic Workbench, 
  20. I have no idea why or how.  But my pointer is normal now.
